Letter from the Executives

On behalf of the Johns Hopkins’ undergraduate International Studies Program, the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and the entire HopMUNC staff, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the very first collegiate conference ever hosted by Johns Hopkins University. It is our hope that you will find these 3 days within the heart of Washington, D.C. to be informative, exciting, and memorable.

First and foremost, we want to thank you for choosing to be a part of this historic event for our Hopkins community. Each committee was designed to capture some of our world’s most pertinent issues pertaining to international studies. However, we recognize that it is our delegates and their innovative perspectives who truly bring these committees to life. Whether you are debating the final frontier this weekend or exploring our nation’s cybersecurity tactics, we look forward to seeing the novel ideas that you use to resolve conflicts and exercise diplomacy!

Outside of committee, we are also committed to providing an engaging and unforgettable time within the School of Advanced International Studies and throughout Washington, D.C. Our conference is being hosted in the new Bloomberg Center, an academic facility designed to extend its visibility and reach in the nation’s capital and maximize the impact of its research and scholarship. This state-of-the-art facility is the new home for SAIS and is located minutes from the United States Capitol and the White House. Current students and scholars in the field of international affairs will be on hand to engage delegates. We encourage you to take advantage of the ample networking opportunities available in between committees and register for conference highlights such as our DC bus tour which is designed to provide delegates with an insider's perspective of Washington’s most well-known National landmarks and monuments in the neighborhood surrounding our conference.

Finally, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the staff at the School of Advanced International Studies and all our student staffers, without which none of this could be possible. This conference is rooted in your love for the Model UN and all that it stands for–civil engagement, productive debate, intellectual curiosity, creativity, networking, and so much more. Together, we are not just creating a model of the United Nations. We are creating a space where future politicians, lawyers, doctors, and professors can explore what it truly means to change the world.

With great excitement,
Lisa Boyd, Secretary-General
Achyuth Parola, Director-General
