To the Delegates and Delegations,
The Johns Hopkins Model United Nations team, with the gracious support of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced Studies at Washington, D.C. and the Program in International Studies at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, is thrilled to welcome you to the second installment of the Hopkins Model U.N. Conference! We, the Executives, Secretariat, and conference staffers, thoroughly enjoyed hosting the inaugural conference last year, and we look forward to surpassing your expectations for this year!
Hosted at the newly constructed Johns Hopkins SAIS building on Pennsylvania Avenue, delegates can look forward to glorious views of the United States Capitol as they engage in discourse from various perspectives of policy, economy, and society in the distinct contexts of the committees we offer. We look forward to engaging with all of the unique and innovative ideas you use to resolve conflicts and exercise diplomacy for the four-day duration of this conference. Outside of committee, we are also committed to providing an engaging and unforgettable time within the School of International Studies and throughout D.C. As we are staffed with leaders in the field of international studies, who will be available to speak with delegates throughout our conference, we encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage with these experts and explore the Capital with the many political buildings and monuments in the neighborhood surrounding our conference, especially during the beautiful cherry blossom season.
As we are counting down the days to conference weekend, we eagerly put forward six committees for your consideration. For the General Assembly, we have the Disarmament and International Security Committee, along with a specialized assembly surrounding the activities of Interpol. For the Crisis Committees, look to the past as you endure the voting shenanigans of the Roman Centuriate, to the future with a climate crisis in effect in Seas and Trees, to pop culture as the nobles of the Landsraad in Dune, and to the non-traditional but ever-present Ad Hoc Committee. We offer these committees to provide a diverse and exciting experience, and we encourage delegates to engage with our trained staffers in these subject areas to create an enjoyable experience with lasting memories.
The idea of HOPMUNC is novel, with last year being our first conference. We are incredibly thankful for the support and feedback we received last year from the delegations that attended, and with your continued support this year, we hope to grow our Model U.N. Conference to become a staple of your and our event season! Together, we are not just creating a model of the United Nations. We are creating a space where future politicians, lawyers, doctors, and professors can explore what it truly means to change the world. The potential for growth and impact is immense, and we are excited to see where this journey takes us.
We eagerly anticipate your participation and the exciting discussions and experiences the upcoming conference will bring. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding the conference, you can find us at hopmuncsec@gmail.com.
Looking forward to a great conference,
